Goodbye, Dearest Holly

I've spoken about my favourite books before, all of which were fictional novels for young adults (okay, okay, one of them was a children's book), but there's one book I always forget about. A book which moves me to tears, fills me with rage, a book in which I feel every word, every emotion that has been poured into each chapter. Which book am I talking about? "Goodbye, Dearest Holly" by Kevin Wells.  Source: www.easons.com If the title hasn't given it away, the book is written by the father of murdered school girl Holly Wells, who, along with her friend Jessica Chapman, were tragically killed back in 2002. Their story was such  a high profile case that you can't have missed it, and even now is brought up in the news, with Kevin appearing on TV towards the end of last year. The whole world felt this case, in a similar way to the way the world feels the disappearance of Maddie McCann, and it's one that has never left people's minds. ...

World Book Day!

Today is World Book Day! Don't you miss going to school and dressing up as your favourite book characters, spending the whole day talking about books and doing book based activities? I certainly do! I couldn't believe it when my youngest sibling, the only one still at school, said that she didn't want to dress up because she didn't care. Okay, so she may be thirteen but still . How could you not care?  For me, World Book Day was always important. You got to express your love of books without being called a nerd and were given that special little voucher, which meant that you could treat yourself to a new book! I loved it, but that's probably because I loved reading and writing almost as much as I loved food, if not more.  I can't remember a time when I couldn't read. I remember reading the basic Biff and Chip magic key books at the age of about four, but I don't remember struggling through them. I just remember reading, the thrill of movin...
