Kimmy K's ordeal is not a joke

Image
If you're not completely up to speed with the news right now, you might not have heard about what happened to reality TV star and entrepreneur, Kim Kardashian. While staying at her apartment in Paris, her room was broken into by robbers who tied her up, held her at gun point and stole millions of dollars worth of jewellery, including an engagement ring from husband Kanye West. It sounds horrific right? I can't even begin to imagine what she went through, what she still must be going through. And of course, I'm relieved for her sake that the children weren't present in the apartment. What I'm not so thrilled about is the endless tirade of 'funny' tweets I've seen about the incident on social media; mainly, Twitter. One of the many lines I've seen floating around is this: If you gon tie up Kim K at least fuck her 😂 that's what I would've did — 🐻🐻🐻 (@RMC___) 3 October 2016 Like really? Really? Not only is this a prime exam...

Is feminism dead?

Image
Oh man. I feel like a have a serious case of deja vu . Yesterday, Kim Kardashian released another photo that caused controversy across the web. This time she was not nude, only topless , but still with a black strip covering her nipples, and this time she was not alone either. The photo also featured a topless (and very toned , might I add!) Emily Ratajkowski, a model and actress. Photo credit: Emily Ratajkowski Twitter Considering that Kim had a ) already done this before and b ) was considerably more covered up this time, you think there'd be less outrage about this particular photo. Oh, how silly of me to assume that people would have gotten over the whole " women have breasts " thing. Piers Morgan had to go and share his thoughts with us, didn't he? Unsurprisingly, they were just as ignorant as before. In fact, I think they were worse than before, because I had managed to ignore him and his comments when the first photo came around. Yesterday though,...

Zoella and Kimmy K- what's the difference?

Unless you spend your life far away from social media, you'll have seen the ' outrageous ' nude photo from Kim Kardashian a couple of weeks ago, and the ' outrageous ' photo of Zoella that featured the top of her pants that appeared earlier on this week. You can read more about the Kim selfie HERE . Long story short, it was a full body, nude shot with a black strip edited on to cover her vagina and nipples. Essentially, she was showing as much skin as she does when she wears a skimpy bikini. As a result of posting this selfie to her social media, she was subject to harsh comments , verbal abuse and criticism . Earlier on this week, Zoella posted a photo on social media site Snapchat, featuring herself lying in bed in a t-shirt and a pair of oh so popular Calvin Klein pants - of which you could only see the top, branded band, give or take a few millimetres. Whilst she got crticised and sexualised by numerous media outlets, she had a whole tribe of people- mo...

Does your body empower you?

Image
Does your body empower you?  You might not have an answer straight away, and that's okay. It can take a long time to feel empowered by your body, especially if you're a woman, because the media mostly  doesn't  allow you to be empowered by anything, least of all your own body. This week, Kim Kardashian posted a totally naked selfie onto instagram, with a small black strip edited in to cover her vagina and her nipples. As you can imagine, all hell broke loose across the internet. Some of the comments made towards Kim, by both celebrities and by ordinary people, have been shocking. She has been called almost every derogatory name under the sun, told that she has no respect for herself, that she needs to think about her children and the influence she has and so on. It's funny that these same questions and harsh words aren't thrown around when men do the same thing. Ryan Reynolds was recently naked in his latest film, along with Ben Affleck, and Channing Tatum and...
