The People v. OJ Simpson

Image
Last night, the final episode of The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story aired. After a thrilling, tense and exciting series made up of ten episodes and an all star cast, I know I was not alone in feeling the disappointment that it was all over.  Now, obviously we know that OJ got off with a "not guilty", despite having a different result in civil court shortly after. I am totally undecided as to whether he did it or not, but I feel like for most of me thinks that he does. The statistics about his blood samples, the gloves, various other DNA samples and the fact that Robert Kardashian, his best friend, thought he did it just seem to sway it for me. But with all of the evidence that the prosecuting team kept putting forwards to the jury, why did OJ end up being "not guilty"? Of course there are a number of reasons; it was a case run by people's emotions, rather than by people taking in the cold hard facts. It was a case that turned into a medi...

Sex on Trial

*Trigger Warning: This post contains sensitive content discussing rape and sexual assault*. Last night (02.11.15) BBC Three showed a documentary titled "Is this rape? Sex on Trial". Being the opinionated woman I am, and with my strong views on rape, sexual assault and consent, I knew that this was something I would have  to watch- and share my opinion on. Which I did via Twitter of course, with the hashtag #sexontrial. Many of the people I follow joined in and the whole evening, from when the program started to long after it had ended, was filled with accusations, outrage, swearing, shock, denial and everything in between. The show was hosted by 4Music presenter, Will Best, and focused on 24 teenagers/young adults, of both sexes, and a variety of ages who were taken to a house and shown a staged drama made for the purpose of the documentary of a sexual encounter at a party between a boy and a girl. The group of young adults then had to discuss and decide whether or not ...

Education: What's the point?

Image
I was applying for a BBC Internship recently that meant I would be helping with popular childs TV program, Blue Peter. After lots of work experience and reaching education at a foundation diploma level, I was surprised when I read the following two statements in the job criteria: For those who find the font too small, I'll just rewrite those out for you. "Anyone with- or without- GCSE's or A levels is eligible to apply. In fact you may not even have a GCSE qualification in English and Maths (A-C) but you'll need to be able to work at this level" "You are not eligible to apply if you already received or are currently working towards a Level 4 or equivalent qualification (i.e. degree or foundation degree, Level 4 apprenticeship) and above."  Okay, okay so yes, at first this seems completely commendable. It shows that massive media corporations are willing to take on people who may not have had the opportunity to receive a good educa...

Do prisoners deserve an education?

On Friday, the BBC published an article discussing the latest "scandalous" idea from infamous Conservative politician, Michael Gove. The idea? That the education prisoners receive must be "overhauled"- in short, improved, with the hope that a better education would lead to the prisoners becoming worthwhile contributors to society, rather than them just reoffending upon their release. Now, usually, I think Michael Gove's views on education are utter rubbish. Whilst I was still at school, he talked about longer school days and less time off- and for a whole multitude of reasons, these idea's just seemed appalling. But I can't help thinking that a better education for prisoners is, in fact, a very good idea and definitely something that should be put into place as soon as possible. Before you hear my own opinion, you may wish to read the original article here . £145 million pounds is spent every year on prison education.  This is a huge  amount- and ...

Introducing...Eve-Yasmine!

Those of you who listened to my first show on Blink FM on Friday 2nd January will have heard an amazing, unique, acoustic over of Gwen Stefani's well loved "Rich Girl", a brand new release from rising star, Eve-Yasmine. The song was well received by my listeners- for those of you who didn't catch my show, you can hear the song here - and so I thought I would introduce you even further into the world of Eve-Yasmin Saoud-Easton! With her roots being a mix from both Morocco and the UK, Eve has a funky, urban edge to her music and even made it into the MOBO Awards Unsung Top 20 Finalists list in 2014. As well as having a gorgeous voice, which features as part of the CK Gospel Choir, Eve also has some wicked presenting skills, and has interviewed a multitude of celebrities, including Kat Von D, Mcfly, Jimmy Choo, Example, Amir Khan and the cast of the Inbetweeners. However, Eve isn't limited at celebrity interviews, and has also presented several well recognised even...
