When I was 12, I got a radio for my birthday. It was really cool, cube shaped with a cube shaped speaker. It looked really modern and also had the ability to stand your iPod in it or use an aux cable to play your own music too. I absolutely loved it. It was at 12 that I started listening to the Radio 1 chart show, and it was at 12 that I discovered who Reggie Yates and Fearne Cotton were. I fell in love, listening to the show religiously, texting in every week. At the time, my name was Flo Jo and when I signed a text off that way, Reggie Yates read it out, saying how cool my name was. The shows were so much fun to listen to and I decided that was what I wanted to do; I wanted to be a radio presenter like Reggie Yates and Fearne.  While Fearne Cotton does inspire me with all of the things that she does (I'd love to have my fingers in as many pies as her!), its Reggie Yates who is my real inspiration. Netflix recently uploaded a brand new documentary on the intriguing and brutal murder case surrounding Amanda Knox and the death of her then room mate, Meredith Kercher. The simply titled "Amanda Knox" documentary recapped the trial and had segments from different people involved in the case, from the chief detective to forensics, Amanda Knox herself and journalist Nick Pisa.  Now I'll be blunt. Nick Pisa really pissed me off. Boy, oh boy did he grind my gears and get on every single one of my nerves.  Let's bear in mind that originally, he was reporting a murder case. He was based in Italy, reporting on behalf of the UK and, for some reason, the Italians liked him and so he was nearly always the first to be given information from the police to report back to the UK, where victim Meredith Kercher was from. This year really has been the making of me. I honestly feel as though I have evolved so much as a person this year, for the better. I have become more independent, more confident, more sociable, even more  ambitious (hey, who knew that was possible?). I really feel like 2016 will be my year, and that by the time I reach 31st December 2016, I'll be looking back on the year thinking "Wow. Look what I did".  By the end of this year... I hope to have achieved my journalism qualification- or at least  the coursework, because I have a feeling the next round of exams isn't until April. It's so exciting to think that I will soon be a 'proper' journalist. Obviously I refer to myself as a journalist now, because I write for a number of websites and printed publications, but soon I'll be qualified , and I know that will be an amazing feeling! The future can be a scary place, we all know that. My future changes all the time! In the space of four years I've gone from wanting to be a photographer, to a multimedia journalist, to a journalist, to a full time blogger, to running my own magazine- deep down always wanting to be a radio presenter. I applied for uni, deferred for a year, went to college instead and gave up my place. I literally just go with the flow , doing whatever makes me happy at the time. I'm very fortunate to be in a position where I can do that. Today, I attended an event with Channel 4 in London, completing a workshop in journalism with a broadcast journalist from the BBC, Jules McCarthy. It was a sad case of affairs when the death of Peaches Geldof was announced back in April. The tv presenter and model mum-of-two was found in her home having overdosed on heroin, relapsing after a 4 month period of being 'clean'. The death was originally ruled as 'sudden' and 'not suspicious' but 4 months on coroners found this to be untrue, with the dose that ended Peaches life being discovered in a box of sweets next to her bed, and a further £550 worth of high purity heroin being found in a cupboard in the family home.
