10 Things Every Teenage Girl Can Relate To

As a teenager, life for a girl can get pretty dramatic. As soon as the hormones start to fly around, suddenly every problem is magnified into a situation that seems 10 times worse than it is, we feel the incessant need to turn everything into a drama and somehow every single problem we face is totally unique to us and "no one has ever gone through this, you just dont get me at all oh my god mum". I hate to be the bearer of bad news ladies, but i'm pretty sure none of your teenage dilemmas are unique. At all. Countless girls all over the world have probably faced exactly the same problem that you are facing right now, and older females will tell you that when you look back on this incident, you will definitely laugh at how ridiculous you have been. Don't believe me? Here's 10 things every teenage girl can relate to...

Boys.
For years and years and years, boys have always been the center of 90% of a teenage girls problem. That boy won't call me, this boy said he liked me but is now ignoring me, he doesn't understand my feelings, he doesn't fulfill my needs. When it comes to the male species, no problem is unique. You may think your boyfriend is different or that he's not like the rest. Trust me. He is not.

Periods.
More to the point, sanitary towels. What is the deal with them? Why do they feel it is their duty to make so much noise when we find ourselves dashing to the bathroom to sort ourselves out? Thank you, feminine hygiene product, for announcing to the whole world that I am in fact not pregnant and the lining of my uterus is being destroyed right now. Why don't we throw a party? SEEING AS YOU'RE MAKING SO MUCH NOISE ALREADY. Gosh.

Bras.
The never ending issue with underwear to cover the two inconvenient lumps of fat on our chests. As females, we did not demand breasts. We didn't sign up for this inconvenience and yet for some reason we have to pay ludicrous prices to cover them up- and we really have no choice but to cover them up, because in the mostly patriarchal society we live in it is seen as offensive to choose not to wear one.  And don't even get me started on trying to find a bra that fits if you have a small back size and large cup size or vice versa. And why is there never pretty bras for people with larger sized boobs? The problems with bras and boobs for teenage girls- and women all over the world really- is one that is ongoing, and not getting any easier.

Food.
Do I eat this? Can I eat this? If I eat this I wont look like Kim Kardashian or Beyonce. No. You won't look like Kim or Beyonce or RiRi or any other superstar because you are not photoshopped and cant afford all of Kim's plastic surgery to look like society's idea of 'perfect'. You want to eat that slice of pizza? Go and eat that slice of pizza, with an extra serving of ice cream for dessert. As for calories, stop counting them. They are measurements of energy. As long as you eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly, you're fine.

Fashion.
Why does it change so quickly, I only just managed to save up for this dress and it's out of season already?! Yep, girls all over the world can relate to this. The price, the trends, the sizes...whoever told men that clothes shopping was a leisurely activity for their girlfriend/wife, lied. There is nothing more stressful than finding something you like and replacing it due to the price tag or because you find yourself at an awkward in between size- too curvy for a size 10 and not quite curvy enough for the 12. Too tall for the size 6 but too skinny for size 8. God damn it.

School.
The 'cliqueyness' of school. Could it be any worse? Boys have an easier division- either you're sporty or you're not. There are so many other ways of categorizing girls into their own separate subcultures. You can be a rich b*tch, athletic, arty, dramatic, a math 'geek', into science, emo, grunge, goth, indie, musical...it goes on and on. Don't think you fit into one of those categories? Don't worry. You aren't the only one.

Girls.
There's always those girls that just despise you for absolutely no reason. You see them in school, around town and you know their name, who they hang out with. Maybe you used to be friends, maybe not. But for some reason they do everything in their power to make your life uncomfortable. Not to the point that it could be regarded as bullying, but just enough to make you want to throw your mars bar at their face (of course you never would, as violence is not looked upon positively...and what a waste of a mars bar too). Even worse, the girls who you don't even know that give you a dirty look as you walk through the park on your own, or sit in the waiting room of the doctors. Who are they? You'll never know. But they've already decided they hate you.

Music.
"Oh my god this song is my song. No really, it's, like, my song. It just sums up everything I've ever felt. Ever" said 10,000 teenage girls about Katy Perry's hit 'Firework'.

Films.
Similarly to music, "oh my god this film I love it so much like, I can't even". You can't even what? Tell the world how much you cried over The Notebook and how adorable it is? Tell everyone how hot Channing Tatum is in Magic Mike? About 1000 other girls probably share your favourite film. Right now, someone is probably crying into a tub of Ben and Jerry's whilst watching it, having just been dumped. You know how it is.

Parents.
People from the stone age who have been assigned with the duty of bringing you up, right? They don't understand anything and don't know what you're going through. They're mean and they're boring and they want to ruin your life. They don't want you to have friends, let alone boyfriends and they want you to grow old with a report filled with A*'s and a few cats for company as you pay for their nursing home bills. Yeah, your parents and every other teenager's parents across the world.
