Crazy in Love or Crazy to Leave?
When we talk 'power couples' straight away our minds go to the queen of the music industry, Beyonce Knowles, and her other half Jay-Z. The pair have been loved up since Beyonce's first post-Destiny's Child single, '03 Bonnie and Clyde'. Of course, their romance was just rumored at the time, but the couple were inseparable and despite denying relationship rumors for months on end, they turned out to be true. Now, after 10 years of being together, 6 of those in marriage, the couple are facing countless relationship rumors once again...only this time, no one's quite as keen for them to be true.
Divorce is always a rumor surrounding wedded celebrities. As the public, we love to see new pairings and couplings of celebrities. We love to see the cute photos they post of their family, their dates and times together. But we also thrive off of the gossip, the secrets, the rumors, when things go wrong. This isn't the first time that Beyonce and Jay-Z have had to deal with rumors and hear-say regarding their relationship, and it's something that can usually just be taken in their stride. Being so consistently in the public eye, gossip like this is inevitable. However, this time seems to be the real deal.
It started May 5th when Beyonce, her younger sister Solange and hubbie Jay-Z were travelling in a lift together, where Solange suddenly threw herself at the rapper, trying to start a fight. The elevator footage was leaked and soon all over the news and various social media platforms. Fans began to speculate, but ever the professional, Beyonce took to instagram and began posting happy family pictures of her and her sister, attempting to extinguish all family feud stories.
The public were unsettled and their hunger for discord between the married couple grew, throwing Bey and Jay even further into the spotlight.
Things remained quiet for a while, both husband and wife battling the rumors with sweet family pictures posted online, making it apparent all was happy and well in the Carter-Knowles household.
The pair certainly fooled their fans, as they looked undeniably happy together, both during performances and their free time. It wasn't until Beyonce's performance of Resentment in Ohio that fuel was added to the fire, as the artist made a not-so-subtle change to the lyrics, turning the song into a direct dig towards her partner. Fans went wild and rumors were flying around more than before. It was decided by the public that the couple's marriage was definitely on the rocks.
But it did not end there. Being the star performer she is, once more Beyonce battled the gossip with more 'happy' photos on her instagram account, and kept up with the 'happy couple' performance during the pair's joint 'On The Run' tour. There are numerous images of the pair performing together, all snuggles and smiles on stage- no one on the verge of divorce could look so happy could they?
The final step to fueling the rumors of love being on the rocks was Beyonce's newest single, a remix of hit 'Flawless' featuring Nicki Minaj . In the song, Bey makes a direct reference to the night Solange attacked Jay in the lift followed by a cryptic mention of 'one billion dollars'. Many fans are both upset and disturbed by these lyrics, as it seems to imply the 'power couples' relationship was a business arrangement all along. We know Jay-Z has rapped many a time that he is a 'business man', but surely this is too ludicrous to be true? I for one refuse to believe the pair had a child and started a family all for the sake of a business deal. It seems totally out of character of the two stars we have come to know and love- if we even know them at all...
Following the release of this song, it was announced the couple may not even finish their tour together. It was officially reported that an 'emergency meeting' was held on Thursday involving lawyers, who are now set to accompany the pair for the duration of the tour. Either Bey and Jay are planning on suing all people spreading rumors about their love life, or something more serious is on the (not too distant) horizon...divorce. A source has spoken out, saying that the rapper is serious about saving the relationship, desperate to make it work and have another child with his wife. He is investing in a 5 week vacation to try and sort things out with his wife, alone. This sounds like more than just a business arrangement to me. However, the source also said that Bey is less keen than her husband and appears to want out, and fast.
Relationships are always complicated, but are one thousand times harder when constantly thrust into the limelight, every word and action being twisted and mangled into another meaning by the 'adoring' fans. I definitely would be devastated to see the couple go their separate ways, and I refuse to believe this is the end for them. Having a child puts a different perspective on relationships, and if they stay together I believe it will be for Blue-Ivy, if no other reason. However, the 'happy' performance the pair are putting on for the public seems so genuine, surely no one could act that way with someone they were ready to divorce... Only time shall tell.
