FORMATION

"Formation"

One word was all it took. One word in a simple, plain white font, plastered across an image of Beyonce with long braided locks, posted to her instagram after a 10 week absence and the world went wild.

Within seconds, "Formation" was trending on social media, and once everyone had managed to access her website to watch the full video and hear the full song, both "Beyonce" and "Blue Ivy" were trending across social media too.

So why all of the fuss?

Well, first and foremost, Beyonce hasn't released a single, let alone an album in a very long time and this came totally unannounced and unexpected. Secondly, she dropped it just before her performance at the Super Bowl half time show, meaning that more people tuned in to watch the Super Bowl just to catch her performance (God, the gal knows how to do business).

Thirdly- and most importantly- the song is totally iconic. Discussing important and often ignored black history? Check. Discussing her heritage and expressing how proud she is of her "baby's afro" and her "Jackson 5 nostrils"? Check. Absolutely raving about how much of an independent and successful, total boss babe woman she is whilst still supporting other women? Check, check, check.

The song focused heavily on very important black issues which are often avoided and/or not addressed properly.

With just one song, she managed to cover so many important issues in a way that would resonate with such a large group of people. For me, it was down to the independent woman vibe, with my favourite line being the closing one- "Always be gracious, best revenge is your paper". For others it was the pride in which she sang about being unapologetically black, the anger in which she wote about black history that is too often ignored and abandoned, the passion in which she screamed "ladies get in formation" and showed her support for fellow females... and for others it was even just the way in which she still portrayed herself as above anything else, a mother, singing about her baby's hair and even involving Blue Ivy in the video. She is four years old and has already trended on Twitter world wide. Amazing.

4 years old and already she has her own Destiny's Child group lined up...!

Following the initial success of the single which was dropped late on Saturday night, she then announced- again, completely out of the blue (pardon the pun)- a Formation world tour. The world went wild.

The woman knows how to deliver. She has released one single which will be performed on tour, with no hint as to what the rest of the songs from this anticipated, and now expected, album will be like- and yet everyone is dying to see her anyway. Merchandise is already available with lyrics from this one song and she managed to completely steal the Super Bowl half time show- just because she is Beyonce.

A business woman, a boss babe, a black woman and a mother. Beyonce handles herself with complete class in all of these areas and I can't wait to see where she's headed to next.
