Beyonce- Still Flawless

The unthinkable has happened. Photos of un-airbrushed Beyonce have leaked online. Kim Kardashian tried to break the internet with her behind, but Beyonce has caused a break down- with her face.

Fans from the Beyhive went into meltdown when over 200 photos, which had allegedly been untouched, appeared online. Not only did they jump to Queen B's defence immediately, claiming the photos to be fakes, they also sent hate to the people who had sourced the photos and shared them with the world, forcing them to be removed. If you thought you could get away with insulting the Queen, you were sorely mistaken.

Me, however. I could not care less about photos of Beyonce and how airbrushed they are or not. In my opinion, photoshop is a thing of the devil. It edits celebrities beyond recognition half of the time and creates unrealistic expectations for women to set their sights on, often leading to damaged self esteems, especially in teenagers, as well as mental health problems and eating disorders. What I can not abide following yesterday's "breaking news" is the nasty news reports I am reading- the most degrading yet coming from none other than The Daily Mail.

Let's start with the headline, a take on her song titled 'Flawless' whilst mocking that apparently, she is not.

To me, Beyonce still looks as fierce as ever in this photo. Her eye brows are arched perfectly, she has a beautiful, full pout and her face is just generally aesthetically pleasing- to me anyway! I had not even noticed the small gathering of "pimples" on her right cheek until it was kindly pointed out by The Daily Mail and labelled as acne

By definition, acne is "a skin condition characterized by red pimples on the skin". There are no visible red pimples on Beyonce's face, just a few, extremely small, raised lumps. Having just finished a world tour, facing the rumors surrounding her marriage for the last year, rivaling with Kim and raising a child, can we really not excuse that, just like an ordinary human being, Beyonce may have had a minor- and I stress, minor- breakout on her skin? I think we can.

Shock horror- a celebrity is actually a real person. Not made of smooth plastic or flawless porcelain. Not life sized barbie dolls with immaculate complexions. All too often we think it impossible for celebrities to face every day issues that real people do. For this, I blame the media- and photoshop. If we had never started to touch up images of celebrities to unbelievably high standards, we would not be so shocked when original images surfaced.

However, whilst the images may be untouched, Beyonce still looks better than me on a good day, and I think she should embrace just how beautiful she is, with or without photoshop. My favourite part of the untouched images is the fact that you can see her smile lines, showing just how often she must smile, which I think is quite nice!

Beyonce really shouldn't feel embarrassed about these images, as she still looks completely gorgeous. As for the publications destroying her appearance and mocking how 'unflawless' she is, I think they are disgraceful. If the world was a school, Beyonce would be a victim, with the media- including you, Daily Mail- being bullies. To criticize someones appearance and to make nasty comments is a form of bullying.

I really hope a 'campaign' comes about from this, as I would love to see more natural photos of Beyonce, as well as other celebrities. It would be great it Beyonce could use her powerful influence to make a bit of a social change. Don't you think?

Love from,
Florence Grace

  1. Am glad these images were released it makes her seem more real. Although am not happy that newspapers are critiising a girl for having bumps on her skin. Would they do this for a male celebrity, probably not as they are not valued by their looks. It angers me so much but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be changing that much. The daily mail is the worst for it! Xxx

    1. So am I, we need to stop treating celebrities like they're plastic dolls and not real people! Haha I know, I have never seen a male criticized for having post-shave bumps or anything! Yes, they are!
