Fictional Things I Wish Were Real

Image
When I read books or watch films/TV shows, so often I find myself saying "That's so cool, I wish that was real!". Luckily, we live in a time where most of these things will become real one day- but they aren't real right now! Here's some fictional things I wish were real so I could take advantage of them right now! Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator (FLDSMDFR) As long as it didn't mess up and almost end the world like in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs , I would love my own FLDSMDFR machine- I'd be able to have exactly what food I wanted, whenever I wanted it, and let's be honest, who doesn't want that?  Invisibility Cloak Who doesn't want to be invisible for at least one day? I can think of so  many things I would do if I was invisible (mostly bad things, like stealing designer garms and getting away with it haha, unlike Harry who uses his to do good). An invisibility cloak would literally...

Happy birthday Tom Hanks!

Image
Today is my favourite person in all the world's birthday- Tom Hanks! For those of you who don't already know, I am obsessed with Tom Hanks! Not because he's my celebrity crush or because I think he's hot, because it's not that at all. I adore him in the way I think he'd be a great dad or granddad or uncle! He's just so...lovely! Not to mention an incredibly talented actor! So, in honour of his birthday today, I'm going to share with you my favourite Tom Hanks films of all time! Forrest Gump. My number one favourite film of all time, let alone Tom Hanks film. His acting is just incredible, the story is heartbreaking as well as heartwarming, totally emotional and just...so good. Words can not describe!  You've Got Mail. This is the kind of film that leaves you all fuzzy inside! It's just the perfect rom com movie, and Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks make the perfect on screen pairing. There's some lovely quotes in the film too, ...

What we can learn from Legally Blonde

Image
Legally Blonde is a great film- there is absolutely no denying that! Elle Woods, the main character, is everything I want to be and I think she is truly an inspirational character...she is definitely the epitome of a girly girl who is so into clothes and make up but she has brains too, and this links in with some strong feminist themes throughout the film. Here's some lessons you can learn from Legally Blonde (and if you haven't watched it yet, watch it NOW!) 1) Don't judge a book by it's cover. Elle is gorgeous and your stereotypical 'bimbo'- blonde, beautiful and caring 100% about her image. However, she is considerate, loving, caring, and incredibly intelligent- which never fails to surprise people! Don't judge someone by their looks. 2) Don't put men before yourself. Whilst Elle did manage to unleash her true potential as a lawyer by chasing the 'love of her life' at the same time she realises that putting a man and his wan...

Reasons 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' sucks

Image
If you're a girl, there's a high chance you've watched 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' at least 50 times, as well as having read the entire Georgia Nicholson series by Louise Rennison. When I was 12, I got it on DVD along with a portable DVD player and I legitimately watched it every single day for about six months. The books and that film taught me how to be a teenage girl, helped me through endless problems and provided me with no end of crazy laughs too!  However, when I watch it now, eight (!!!) years on, with my 13 year old sister, I can't help but notice that whilst the film is great, it simultaneously sucks  too. Don't believe me? Here's the reasons why... The film combines two books, mixes up story lines, misses out details and get's things wrong. Yes, I know it's only an adaptation but at the same time, it really bugs me.  Georgia is literally the WORST friend ever! She is selfish, she is self centred and sh...

The Intern

Image
Recently, I bought the 2015 film "The Intern", starring Robert de Niro and Anne Hathaway. The film looked funny in the adverts and I love both Hathaway and de Niro so had a good feeling about it.  I was right to have a good feeling- it is a truly brilliant film! I cried all the way through purely down to the sweetness of Robert de Niro in his old age, but also at the great story line. Without giving away too much, Anne Hathaway plays a very ambitious career woman who owns her own massively successful internet company- a total girl boss. Rife with feminist themes, the film portrays Anne's character as one that I could definitely relate to. Throughout the film there were some lines that really meant something to me- I wanted to share some of those with you guys in order to provide you with inspiration yourselves!  "It's 2015, are we really still critical of working mums, still?" "Apparently selling clothes makes us a chick s...

AMY

Image
A little behind everybody else, I know, but today I finally got to sit down and watch the Oscar-winning movie, Amy, a documentary based on the life of the world renowned singer- before, during and after the fame.  Throughout the two hour film I experienced a range of emotions. I felt sad, heartbroken, sick, shocked, angry, horrified and sympathetic. I wanted nothing more than to be there for Amy- a girl who was so clearly crying out for help in totally the wrong ways and receiving nothing. The drug addiction, the alcohol abuse, the slacking attitude towards her career, it all pointed to one thing- a very, very unhappy person. It broke my heart. Of course, we had all seen the infamous photos of the blood seeping from between Amy's toes through her light coloured ballet pumps at one of the peaks in her addiction; the nation had been scarred, stunned and shocked by them. But for me, personally, I had no clue that things had been quite as bad as they were. According to t...

Why Bridget Jones is a true hero

Image
Bridget Jones is often deemed the  film for single women. We feel comforted by the fact that there is a fabulous example of how much worse things could be for us. But I see it differently- I see Bridget Jones as a total hero for women, for far more than her relationship status. Let me tell you why...  She never gives up. No matter how many times she fails with her diet, fails to give up smoking and drinking and fails to find a "nice, sensible man", she never lets it keep her down for long, constantly trying time and time again to achieve her resolutions. What a trooper. She is always there for her friends. Who cares if she's meant to be hard at work, when your friend calls you from the bathroom crying over her latest ex, you answer! Similarly, when your friend unknowingly makes you smuggle drugs back from your holiday and then abandons you, you forgive her. Because that's what friends are for, right? She is totally independent.  No matte...

Are the Oscars racist?

Image
Today I've got something playing on my mind... The Oscar's and the boycott from several famous black actors and actresses. My take? Ridiculous. Let me tell you why, before you all jump down my throats... The Oscar's is one  award's ceremony out of many that celebrates achievements from the film industry. Every year, numerous people are nominated for awards and have to sit in anticipation until the night when they find out if they successfully beat their opponents and win the coveted Oscar. This year, there is a lack of black individuals nominated, and apparently this was also the case last year...and so many black actors and actresses are boycotting the awards ceremony. There are several things wrong with this.  1) Maybe no black people are nominated because there aren't enough- or even any- black people to nominate in the first place! This isn't a problem with the Oscar's, this is a problem with the film industry as a whole! The film in...
