What we can learn from Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde is a great film- there is absolutely no denying that! Elle Woods, the main character, is everything I want to be and I think she is truly an inspirational character...she is definitely the epitome of a girly girl who is so into clothes and make up but she has brains too, and this links in with some strong feminist themes throughout the film. Here's some lessons you can learn from Legally Blonde (and if you haven't watched it yet, watch it NOW!)

1) Don't judge a book by it's cover. Elle is gorgeous and your stereotypical 'bimbo'- blonde, beautiful and caring 100% about her image. However, she is considerate, loving, caring, and incredibly intelligent- which never fails to surprise people! Don't judge someone by their looks.

2) Don't put men before yourself. Whilst Elle did manage to unleash her true potential as a lawyer by chasing the 'love of her life' at the same time she realises that putting a man and his wants/needs before her own is not okay- and this is something important to remember.

3) Being a good friend is so important. She helps Paulette to get her dog back and to get a date and she helps her fellow law colleague to get a date, as well as assisting her sorority sister in her trial. All of it pays off in the end and helps her friends to achieve happiness, which is great!

4) Never let men take advantage of you simply because you're a woman. Just because you were born with a vagina doesn't mean that's what should get you a promotion at work, recognition for achievements and so on. Don't let any men (or women, for that matter) take advantage of you, in the work place or ever!

5) Always have faith in yourself. You can do literally whatever you like if you work hard enough, dream big enough and put your mind to it! Don't doubt yourself, otherwise other people will too.

Florence Grace
