May Day!

Today is May 1st (in case you didn't know) and that means it's not only my half birthday (wooh!) but also May Day- and the day that I got to be the May Princess at my towns first ever May Fair!

The May Queen was truly inspirational, a young lady called Charlotte who suffered from a brain virus when she was just two years old, leaving her in a coma for three months. Doctors didn't believe she would ever be able to walk or talk- and yet now, at the age of 24, she has gone through life doing both of those things! She is truly an incredible young lady. She looked so beautiful too!

We arrived at Watermead nice and early at 10am to receive our handmade flower corsages for the day, and for Charlotte to pick up her head dress. They were so beautiful and smelt lovely too!

Then at 11:20 we were picked up in a vehicle owned by the event sponsors and driven on to the site, right in to the middle of the field where the fair was being held! Our arrival was announced via megaphone and everyone was crowding around the cars. We had to wave out of the windows like real royalty- there was even press there snapping endless photo's, as well as my dad and sister, so it felt very much like being a real 'celebrity' haha! As we stepped out of the car, we were announced individually, which was very cool!

Charlotte, the May Queen, gave a short speech to officially open the May Fair and then we had a photo session for the local paper!

There were several events going on during the course of the day that as 'royalty' we had to get involved with, including thanking the may pole dancers for their contribution! Luckily we had gorgeous weather all day long, which was fab because I had been so scared it would rain!

I am so, so grateful I had the opportunity to be a princess for a day and I loved every moment of it! I hope you've all had good May Days and bank holiday weekends- what have you been up to? Let me know in the comments below!

Love from,
Florence Grace
