#SeptemberStudies- How do you maintain a social life while studying?

One thing we have all struggled with (or you may even still struggle with!) is being able to study and do all of your coursework, revision and homework whilst trying to maintain a decent social life.

The first thing to remember is that your studies are number one priority. I hate to say it but they are. If you want to get into a particular uni or college course, if you want to pursue a particular career, your friends won't do it for you, you have to do it yourself by working hard and studying (where appropriate). You might want to go out every single night, you might be suffering from a serious case of FOMO but when it comes down to it, your studies are going to benefit you in the long term more than that party ever will.

However, with that being said, it's important not to abandon your social life altogether. If you neglect to see your friends every time they ask to see you or go out somewhere with you, they will eventually stop asking you altogether and you'll find yourself very lonely, which nobody wants! You'll also miss out on the opportunity to create some lifelong friends and memories, so neglecting your social life entirely is a big no-no!

The answer to this issue of studies vs. social life is balance

Balance can be very hard to achieve but if you work hard enough at achieving it, it will make your life one hundred times easier! For example, if you're going to study every night after school, why not give yourself weekends off? Or, study four nights of the week after school with one night off and then one day at the weekend working and the other day socialising. Work out how long you need to spend studying and how many hours you need to spend on that essay or that project and then once you've made enough time for your studies, fill in the free time around that with time for your friends.

Using a diary or a calendar can help provide a visual plan for you, rather than trying to create a weekly plan in your head and then forgetting where you're supposed to be studying and where you're supposed to be working.

An ideal balance in a dream world would be 10% working, 90% socialising  50/50 working and socialising but really, it's about finding what works for you. Some subjects require more time and dedication than others, so it's all about working out what will work with your deadlines and your lifestyle. You might not get the balance right straight away but you'll get their eventually.

Don't let your work slide but don't let your friendships slide either! Balance is key and can be easily achieved as long as you prioritise correctly!

Love from,
Florence Grace
