First world problems

First world problems...we all have them! You know, those issues that literally seem to bring on the end of your world when realistically they're minor problems compared to people living in total poverty in Africa, struggling to just survive.

But it doesn't stop us complaining, does it? Nope! I thought I'd share with you some of the first world problems I have encountered over the last twenty years of my life that have made it seem like my world is ending and then laugh about them, showing you guys how stupid I was being!

1) Not having a mobile phone. End of my life, aged ten. How was I supposed to fit in with my friends??? Come on.

2) When having a mobile phone, it was pay as you go. Not on a fancy contract like the ones my friends all had. Stupid, mean parents. I was lucky to have a phone.

3) When I got a contract on my mobile it was only for 300 texts a month. Seriously? How is that enough to talk to anyone. My parents were actually generous- I was twelve!

4) Being totally starving all the time. When usually I'd just eaten a few hours before and am just feeling a little bit hungry as dinner time approaches. I'm lucky to eat more than once a day.

5) Being killed by school work. Because going to school and learning is so horrific. I was lucky that school wasn't a six mile trek away and that I was even able to receive an education.

6) The wifi being slow. Because now my life really is over for good. I'm lucky to have an internet connection.

7) The hot water isn't working. So now I can't shower for the next hour or so! I'm lucky to have clean water to use.

8) I didn't get Beyonce tickets, my life is finished. I am a total loser compared to my friends. I'm lucky I got them second time around, and that I have the money to go to gigs like this.

9) I'm bored. Why is there nothing to do in my town? There's only countless restaurants and cafes, a gym, a swimming pool, a bowling alley, a cinema and two shopping centres. I'm lucky I'm not made to work every second of every day on an unfair wage.

10) I have so much to do. There's work, then this event, then a family meal, then a concert with my friends then some more work. I'll be drained. At least I have a busy life- I don't have to work, get married off and then look after a family.

Whilst this post is a little tongue in cheek, it is seriously about gratitude. We can laugh at our first world problems but we must remember that there are so many people who are far worse off than ourselves. I'm going to try to remember this more and to complain about these trivial problems in my life a little less.

What first world problems do you always have a whine about? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. This is such a good post because as a person in the 1st world born to immigrant parents, I'm very aware of the privileges I have, so I can't stand it when people complain.
