DEVON DAY 1

So here it is, Devon day 1! Whilst today is Wednesday, I am posting about yesterday, and it will be like that for the rest of the week...so I will always be a day behind, if that makes sense! So, let's talk about Tuesday the 21st June.

We were scheduled to set off from Aylesbury to Devon at 9am, aiming to get to Devon at about 1pm. As it happens, we didn't leave Aylesbury until 10pm and arrived at 4pm- that's an additional two hours to our original journey plan! However, an hour of this was due to an unexpected stop for lunch at a service station because we all realised that a) we would really like to stretch our legs and b) we were all starving. At the service station I tried my first ever Papa John's pizza and it was truly incredible- even better than Domino's! However, the highlight for me was definitely being given a 2002 style mobile phone buzzer so you could place your order, go shopping and then come back when your buzzer went off! This excited me probably a lot more than it should have.

One of the funnier moments at out stop was my friend, Ricarda, giving her surname at Starbucks (Casey) because no one can ever spell her first name...and she ended up with this:

The journey itself wasn't as bad as I expected. I actually managed to doze off quite a bit, and Alec had put together a pretty good playlist, so it was all fine and dandy. However, we were all pleased to see the 'Welcome to Devon' sign and for our holiday to begin.

The town we're staying in is very small and yet we still struggled to find the house we were renting out. We eventually found it, down a very narrow one way road that isn't wide enough for cars to park down. All of the houses are covered in flowers and 'beach props' and painted pastel colours. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and everything just looked so lovely. We knew we had chosen the right place to stay.

After finally getting into the house and unpacking, we went to the local Sainsbury's to buy 'dinner and essentials'. Dinner and essentials.

We spent £55 on one meal for that same night and then...snacks. To quote Alec, "We look like kids gone wild".

To be honest, we do stick out like sore thumbs. Everyone in this town is aged 50+ or a dog. We have had quite a few stares because they obviously aren't used to getting youths here on holiday!

Ricarda cooked us a delicious dinner of pasta and meatballs (gluten free for herself, vegetarian for Alec, meat for me and BJ- catering to everyone!), whilst Alec taught me and BJ to play Rummy. I actually managed to win a game too, which surprised me!

We then spent the evening planning for Wednesday and listing all the things we wanted to do and playing games- having a "family night in". I tested the power shower whilst the rest of the gang payed Fifa and relaxed. It's so nice just to be altogether in our own space- I wish we lived together like this all of the time!

Today has been truly lovely and I hope that tomorrow is as equally as lovely!

Love from,
Florence Grace
